We're starting to feel the Halloween spirit now and it seems to have crept-up mighty fast this year. Usually the marketplace is teeming with ways to get you to spend your money on the upcoming holidays well before now...is it just us or does there seem to be a slight delay on the holiday shopping onslaught?
It's probably just us.
We did do a post a few weeks ago on some family-friendly Halloween happenings around the area, but we're going to highlight a few that still may be considered family-friendly...if you're The Adam's Family.
Actually, some kids are pretty okay with a little scare, some love a lot. We know a few that have gotten a kick out of terror from a very young age. They seem to have a pretty good handle on fantasy vs. reality...even better than many grown-ups we know!
Here's a list of some relatively local haunts offering various levels of terror and scare;
Cemetarium Haunted House- This Halloween production used to be in the field behind Bella Vista High School. We always loved the scare and it was the perfect setting...usually just a little foggy & pretty darn dark. And the way the set sat, you couldn't see other buildings, just the field & the moon. We haven't been to the new digs over at the old Sunrise Fun Center, but it seems like a proper creep-out location.
It's truly a home-grown haunt too. When it started-out, it was a well done but low budget venue with local actors scaring the heck out of you. Having been such a success, it then moved to the defunct Sunrise Fun Center which is now kind of creepy in-and-of itself.
There are three venues within the main location. The Cemetarium itself is its own scare plus there are also The Psycho Circus and Zombie Heights with choices of low scare or full scare options so it is relatively family friendly depending on how apt anyone in the group is to pee their pants.
Ultimate Terror Scream Park - Another collection of scary venues that was named Best in the West by Forbes and one of the top Halloween events in the nation by Haunted Attraction Magazine (yes, there is apparently a Haunted Attraction Magazine). This place is listed as being "for mature audiences only" which we can only guess to mean that there is a high probability that you or someone you're with will pee your pants at least a little.
Callson Manor (a.k.a. Direworld) - This Roseville venue is listed as a 'scare park' with 6 premiere attractions that were developed by a top team of haunt and industry professionals. Check it out on Good Day Sacramento to see if you and the fam can handle all the horror.
Ticket prices for all of these fright sights vary but generally range between about $10-$20. They offer Front of the Line and VIP ticket options as well as the option to purchase tickets ahead of time. There are various rules and regulations regarding what costumes patrons are allowed to wear so get a clue before heading out.
They are all open now through at least Halloween, some are open a few days into November so if you want to celebrate Dia de los Muertos with panic, shock and alarm, give them a try.
