Stay Cool (in) California

We've personally enjoyed the delights of these Northern California hot-cool spots and have the absolutely, positively, without a doubt, the best places to chill this summer;

  • Best Swimmin' Holes in Northern California; We arguably have some of the best swimmin' holes (yes, that is the way one must say it, it's probably a law) in the entire United States. We're coming up to the hottest time of the year, when what little snowpack we had over the winter has had enough time to melt-off and warm-up to that perfect swimmin' hole temperature. It's triple digits out there and the refreshing, swirling, crystal-clear snowmelt gurgles over boulders that have been smoothed out to make the perfect river seating before it water-falls into pools that are just right for bobbing, dipping and splashing. The glint of fool's gold reminds you you're in Gold Country. Click here for a list of our favorites.
  • Airbnb; We all have access to our own backyard retreat complete with freeform pool, tropical garden and modern spa-like amenities right? If you're simply tired of the same old same old and want to enjoy someone else's, hit that weekend reset button. AirBnB let's you take that sweet staycation so it feels like you're a world away, even when you may only be right around the corner.
  • Area Hotels...with Swanky Pools! We may not be Las Vegas level in luxury lodging, but we have our fair share of spots with amenities that are worth tripping-to.  Pools, bars, restaurants, great views & in close proximity to nightlife, Hotels.com is one site that can help you find a pool with a room (and then some) in Sacramento.
  • A Little B&B Love; like your lodgings a little more cozy? Charm abounds at Bed & Breakfasts and intimate inns around Sacramento and surrounding foothills. You can stay in a historical Victorian or a country-style setting amid vines & wines so see what Tripadvisor users recommend as their favorite places to enjoy some downtime.
  • Do a Delta Day; do a little trip back in time with a day or two on the California Delta. It is truly a throwback with some very old-school dining, roadhouses, wineries, farm stands...even a sailing school. It's an easy day out to Clarksburg, Locke, Walnut Grove, Isleton & other super-small towns along the Sacramento River. We love hitting the Old Sugar Mill for a collection of boutique wineries then grabbing some grub at either Giusti's Place or Al the Wop's before either having some SUP (stand up paddleboarding) fun or enjoying an afternoon sail at Delta Sailing School. The seemingly-sparse surroundings belie all there is to see & do. Try a Saturday to Sunday California Delta adventure for a truly unique old California experience.
